A social engineering attack is one that tests the organizations ability to prevent an attacker from gaining access to information through means of manipulating the people inside the organization.  It sometimes uses some technical means to support the attack, but the essence of it is to rely on human mistakes for success.


There are a number of different methods to consider when planning a social engineering attack.  One of the most vulnerable areas in this regard is the use of email.  A major issue for companies is ensuring their employees act responsibly when working with emails they should be suspicious of.
